    ① Design Explorations

    Diving In.

     EXPLORATION
The purpose of the initial mood design / pallate exercise to is to explore the relationship between the music and visuals
to establish the art direction is in the right direction to serve as a foundation for work going forward. Keep in mind this phase is just about exploring the “vibe” and “mood” of possible directions, not about final assets for anything!

Typography / MarksI usually begin by creating a set of type style and logo marks that can be applied across different ideas, it get’s me working with the artist and project title early and helps establish if we’re on the right track typographically. Here I’ve leaned on lots of vintage-script style typography, adding texture and graphic elements where I felt they we’re needed. I’ve also started experimenting with integrating the Valentinetti signature Violin headstock shape into a cursive “V”.

These are just initial explorations but I think start to open up a world around Sal’s name that is classic, authentic, and

    Pallate 1: “Old Hollywood”

The first “Pallate” I’ve began exploring is the visual world around 50’s and 60’s stage and screen, evoking images of spotlight-lit focused stages on grand pianos, smokey cocktail-bar after parties, tuxedos, 50’s fords with tanned leather, and the mystery and romance of the larger than life lifestyle of stars of a bygone-age.

    Pallate 2: “Drive In Theatre”

For the second pallate, I stepped into the adjacent-50’s relaxed, more colorful, radio-hits, doo-wop styling that conjures up images of school dances, drive in-black and whites with the top down, geometric, carpetted, a muted green and blue retro-future.

    Pallate 3: “A Napoli”

For a third pallate I’m exploring a more european - style that captures a more historical look, maybe more conguent and reflecting of Sal’s heritage, think serif-type, stone and marble, aged cracking wine labels, sun-weathered resteraunt signs etc. to create an air of timelessness to Sal’s visual world.

    Explorations Round II

Based on the first feedback round with KGCR, we decided to dive deeper into a few of the existing directions, still diverging stylistically to explore, but starting to hone in on some assets that can be used for the coming releaase of Sal’s “Little Pal”. So here I’ve taken some existing stuff and some new stuff to give some options for practical assets like album / single cover, show poster, and T shirt graphics.

    Next Steps

At this turnover I’ve concluded the hours I usually designate for this “Exploration” period, and now if we are happy with the general pallate, we can move into working on final assets for the artists upcoming releases and live shows. We’ll chat and see where we can land things and what else we would like to design.

PLEASE READ - HOW BADMAGIC DOES FEEDBACK!

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts, ideas, edits and dreams about the work we are creating! In my experience the best way to document your thoughts and responses to the work are via email  first!

Take some time to sit with the designs, formulate some ideas around where you would like it to go, and write me an email  at chrissymakeswaves@gmail.com  or respond to the delivery email, and give me  notes about where we should head next. After that, we can jump on a call to discuss these points and get aligned before the next batch of work, I do this primarily so that I have good documentation of your feedback! Often times I find if we skip straight to the call, some of the good nitty gritty details can get lost and since I work on lot’s of projects at a time, its easy for me to keep it all straight, thank you!!
